IPL Photorejuvenation

What is IPL Photorejuvenation?

The term "Photorejuvenation" refers to the non-invasive treatment of red and brown pigment that leaves a smooth skin texture and even complexion, yielding a more youthful appearance. IPL Skin Treatments are a safe, effective and popular way to improve the signs of aging from the face, neck, chest, arms and hands. This in-office procedure is performed by a physician or trained medical staff member and typically requires four to six sessions of about 20 - 60 minutes each, performed at three-week intervals. Therefore, a series of treatments may take about fifteen weeks to complete.

The IPL procedure is gentle, non-invasive and safe, requiring no downtime. In fact, many people even schedule their sessions during their lunch breaks. Additionally, our IPL treatments are customized to each individual's specific skin type and condition, providing the best possible results.

Photorejuvenation. [Photo = Light; Rejuvenation = to make young again] is the process of improving the skin color and texture through the use of light energy.

What can Photorejuvenation treat?

IPL or Photofacial, is an excellent way to safely and effectively treat the following in one comprehensive treatment -

What about maintenance?

Maintenance treatments are recommended in order to maintain the positive benefits that have been achieved after completing the first series of five treatments. The ideal time to schedule a single maintenance treatment is about four months after your last treatment. However treatment maintenance schedules can be individualized depending on specific needs and assessment.

Where are the best body areas for IPL Photorejuvenation?

Areas of skin which will benefit the most are generally sun exposed areas. The commonest areas treated are the face, the neck, the chest and the backs of the hands. The face, chest, neck, upper back, forearms and hands are the most commonly treated areas.

Skin will look refreshed and rejuvenated. Improvement in tone and texture of skin is experienced. A significant reduction of brown and red areas of discoloration, small red blood vessels (spider veins) and irregular areas of pigmentation occurs. Pore size is reduced by one third. A reduction of red discoloration will be evident in individuals with rosacea or abnormal flushing. Skin looks more beautiful following IPL Photorejuvenation.

How long will the results last?

The results achieved from the treatment series can be expected to last for possilby several years or longer. However, with the passage of time and with environmental exposure, skin ages as we do. IPL Photorejuvenation will provide benefits and significantly reverse many of the visible signs of sun-damaged skin. The improvement that has been achieved following a first series of five treatments can be maintained by occasional single maintenance treatments.

How will my treatment feel?

You will experience a slight sensation as the pulses of therapeutic light are passed over your skin. The sensation is very mild and easily tolerated. Topical anaesthic creams are not required but are available for individuals who wish to numb the skin.

IPL treatments are designed to provide little down time. Your face may appear red or flushed, something which usually fades within a few hours. Individuals with prominent pigmentation may notice that brown areas become temporarily darker after IPL treatment. This darkness takes on a “dirty look” until it flakes off in 7-10 days. Makeup may be applied immediately after your treatment so you can return to work immediately. By performing microdermabrasion between IPL sessions, recovery will be enhanced and results will be improved.

What should I do to prepare for treatment?

You should avoid sun exposure and tanning (including artificial tanning products and procedures) before and after your treatments.

What can I do to make my results last longer?

Microdermabrasion and chemical peels are a wonderful adjunct that is often used in conjunction with IPL therapy. Between IPL treatment sessions, we recommend these treatments to improve surface irregularities in the skin and to promote clearing of skin discolouration.
